Annapurnas mules, Nepal., originally uploaded by Eric Lon.

These loaded mules are coming from the village of Muktinath, 3800 meters, on the bottom of this pic. They are crossing Thorong La, 5416 meters to go down on the other side, to Manang. The strongest trekkers are doing the same.

Visiting the vilages and discovering the local way of life is part of trekking.

The trident is the weapon of Shiva the Destroyer. I was exploring around Annapurna base camp and stumbled upon these away from the camp.

Carrying 40 kilos on his forehead. I offered him water which he accepted. He found great interest in a carbine clip I used to attach a water bottle to my bag... I should've given it to him.

Nepali Symbol

Nepali Symbol, originally uploaded by spearhawk.

Taken in Kathmandu Swayambhunath Temple.

Swayambhunath is an ancient religious complex atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city. It is also known as the Monkey Temple as there are holy monkeys living in parts of the temple in the north-west. Swayambhunath is one of the most sacred sites of Buddhist pilgrimage in Nepal, second only to Boudhanath.

The Swayambhunath complex consists of a stupa, a variety of shrines and temples, including a Tibetan monastery, a museum and a library. The stupa has Buddha's eyes and eyebrows painted on. Between them, there is something painted which looks like the nose - but is the Nepali symbol of 'unity', in the main Nepali language dialect.

Nepali Sarangi (Nepali:सारंगी), a classical musical instrument of Nepal

Sarangi (Nepali: सारंगी) is a traditional musical instrument of Nepal with 4 strings. In the past Sarangi has been played by Gandarvas only in 'Gahine' songs, but its spell-bounding music is so tempting that many people are on to it nowadays. Its melodious music has been mentioned in many literature works and folk/modern songs. Its sound is very close to sorrowful human voice.
